Bioeconomy Education & Entrepreneurship

BioBeo - Innovative Education for the BioEconomy

The project ties in with ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) activities in Baden-Württemberg, but is geared toward bioeconomy education throughout Europe. Many materials, such as comics and a game, as well as a bioeconomy curriculum, are already available. Starting in January 2025, there will be small AI education elements for the youngest children.

DESTINY - Design and sustainability assessment of innovative biomass production systems and value-chains in the Bioeconomy

The DESTINY Joint Doctoral Network (JDN) is an integral part of the educational activities of the European Bioeconomy Alliance (EBU). DESTINY trains a new generation of scientists & practitioners through a multidisciplinary curriculum. 15 PhD students will be equipped with the knowledge they need to develop & evaluate new biomass production systems & bio-based value chains.

FOEBE+ - Fostering Entrepreneurship for a sustainable and innovative BioEconomy

This project aims to equip master's and doctoral students in the field of bioeconomy with entrepreneurial skills for sustainability. It brings together seven leading European universities within the European Bioeconomy University (EBU) to develop innovative curricula. Key activities include student competitions, digital learning platforms and non-formal educational resources to promote entrepreneurial mindsets.

Erasmus I-RESTART – Empowering Skills and Innovation in Agri-Food and Veterinary Sectors

I-RESTART aims to strengthen the workforce in the agricultural, food and veterinary sectors through retraining and further education. The project supports the transition of employees from heavy industry and makes it easier for students to enter the labor market in the agricultural and food industry. Through the use of micro credits, the identification of skills gaps and the development of 10 occupational profiles and training materials, I-RESTART contributes to the achievement of the Green Deal.

Really Hempful! Platform

This project focuses on the creation of teaching materials for vocational schools about the hemp value chain and networks. As part of the project, two vocational schools will integrate the teaching materials (handbook, podcasts and curriculum) into the classroom. In the end, the students will develop business models that will be presented to a broader European public.

Circular Economy & Digitalization

Path2Dea - Paving the Way towards Digitalisation Enabling Agroecology for European Farming Systems

The aim of the project is to develop a better understanding of how digital tools can be used sustainably to shape the transformation towards an agroecological agrifood system. The focus is on a participatory approach that involves all relevant stakeholders in order to jointly develop sustainable solutions.

ReBioBW - Potential of agricultural residues for the Bioeconomy in Baden-Württemberg

The ReBioBW project is currently recording the potential of all existing side streams from agricultural production and the first processing stages in Baden-Württemberg in order to show how they could be used for local resource utilisation in a sustainable and circular Bioeconomy.

Agroforestry

afEFFECTsLAB - Accompanying research measures for the Water, Soil, Agroforestry project

In order to make the Southern Black Forest Nature Park more climate-resilient, innovative measures in the areas of agroforestry, water management through keyline design and humus formation on agricultural land are to be tested and scientifically monitored from 2025 to 2029.

The measures will be investigated and analyzed from a hydrological, pedological and microclimatic perspective with regard to agricultural biomass yields.

KAFo - Coordination Office for Agro-Forestry Systems Research

The “Coordination Office for Agro-Forestry Systems Research (KAFo)” promotes networking, exchange and cooperation between scientists at the University of Hohenheim, other agricultural and forestry research institutions in Baden-Württemberg and other stakeholders such as agricultural associations, politicians and commercial enterprises to develop joint AFS research projects.

Soil health

HuMUS - Healthy Municipal Soils

As part of the EU Soil Mission (Horizon Europe), the Healthy Municipal Soils (HuMUS) project engages municipalities and regions as soil managers in many European countries to protect and restore soil health. Through transdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder methods for planning and coordination, HuMUS promotes social innovation, communication and participatory approaches for better soil health.
